시간은 언제나 일정한 방향으로 흐르는 듯 보이지만, 그 안에는 이미 지나간 과거와 아직 도래하지 않은 현재가 겹쳐 있다. 지금 이 순간 또한 과거의 잔향 속에서 생성되고, 그 흔적들이 켜켜이 쌓여 ‘현재’라는 표면을 만들어 나간다. 김태인 작가는 이러한 ‘지속’의 개념을 항아리라는 매개체에 담아낸다. 작가에게 항아리는 단순한 물리적 그릇이 아니라, 과거와 현재가 동시에 머무는 시간의 용기이자, 안팎이 서로를 비추는 순환의 공간이다.

김태인의 작품은 스틸과 철 등 단단한 재료로 빚어진다. 이 금속의 표면은 반짝이며 빛을 머금고, 관람자가 그 속을 들여다보는 순간 그 반사된 얼굴 위로 각자의 시간이 겹쳐 비친다. 작가는 이러한 반사적 장치를 통해 관람자의 흐르는 시간을 작품 안에 담아내고자 한다. 항아리의 표면 위에는 각자의 삶에서 겹쳐온 기억, 사라지지 않은 과거, 그리고 여전히 생성 중인 현재가 교차하며 새로운 ‘지금’을 만들어낸다. 작가의 손끝에서 빚어진 항아리들은 그렇게 시간을 담고, 다시 흘려보내는 유기적 존재로 우리 앞에 놓이게 된다.

이번 전시를 통해 “시간을 담는다는 것은, 곧 나를 바라본다는 것”이라는 고요한 깨달음의 순간으로 관람자들을 초대하고자 한다. 김태인 작가의 개인전은 2025년 10월 10일부터 10월 26일까지 리나갤러리 부산에서 진행된다.

Time may seem to flow in a single, linear direction, yet within it, the past that has already passed and the future yet to arrive overlap and coexist. This very moment, too, is born from the resonance of what has already been its traces accumulating layer upon layer to form the surface we call the ‘present.’ Artist Kim Taein embodies this notion of continuity through the vessel of the jar. For Kim, the jar is not a mere physical container, but a vessel of time where the past and present reside together a circular space in which the inner and outer continuously reflect one another.

Kim’s works are shaped from steel and iron, materials both solid and enduring. Their metallic surfaces shimmer with light, and when the viewer peers inside, one’s own reflection emerges, the overlapping of personal time upon the surface of the work. Through this reflective device, the artist seeks to capture, the viewer’s flowing sense of time within the work itself. On the surface of each jar, the accumulated memories of life, the past that has not vanished, and the present still in the making intersect, weaving together a new sense of ‘now.’ Formed by the artist’s own hands, these jars stand before us as organic beings that hold and release time.

Through this exhibition, the artist invites viewers into a quiet moment of realization that “to contain time is, in essence, to face oneself.” Kim Taein’s solo exhibition Continuous Time will be held at Lina Gallery Busan, from October 10 to October 26, 2025.
